Summer Reading Programs

Keep the kids reading this summer with several programs and ideas to keep them motivated!  Help reduce the "summer slide".

Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program
This summer's reading program at the Yankton Library begins on June 1st with a kick-off on June 4th.  You can read more information about the kick-off event on the EVENTS Calendar. Kid's can earn prizes along the way of reading this summer. Sign up here.

Little Free Library
"Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world." The "Take a book, return a book" idea is simple. Add one of your books to the library location and feel free to take one home with you. There are several locations in Yankton and the surrounding area. Head over to Little Free Library website and put in the zip code you are in to find a list. This makes for a fun adventure when traveling this summer as well! And keep in mind, not all Little Free Library locations are listed on the website.

Barnes & Noble
Kids can earn a free book by completing the log at this link by September 3, 2018.  Great opportunity, if you are traveling to a Barnes & Noble location prior to the final date.

Chuck E Cheese’s
When students read every day for 2 weeks, they can earn free tokens. Check out the log here.  Another great opportunity if you are traveling to a Chuck E Cheese's location to prepare ahead.

Reading at the Park
Grab a good book and find a local area park to read at.  A good shade tree to sit under with a blanket down, a cold drink and your book can make for a fun, new adventure!  Try a new park or location each time you spend time reading.
